Camp for All Special Needs Camp FAQ

What is the mission of Camp For All?

Camp For All is a unique barrier-free camp working in partnership with other non-profit organizations to enrich the lives of children and adults with challenging illnesses or special needs and their families by providing unique camping and retreat experiences throughout the year.

Where is Camp For All located?

The camp site is located at 6301 Rehburg Rd. in Burton, TX (Washington County, between Houston and Austin).

The corporate office is at 10500 NW Frwy, Suite 220, in Houston, TX.

Who does Camp For All serve?

Throughout the year, Camp For All hosts more than 56 groups from the greater Houston area, Washington County, Bryan/College Station, Austin, and some camps draw nationally.  Campers include people with special needs, including those with cancer, HIV, burns, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, kidney disease, developmental disabilities, Phenylketonuria, neurofibromatosis, visual challenges, brain injuries, gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, tourette syndrome, autism and others.

What does "barrier free" mean?

Camp For All was built with absolutely no barriers for children and adults with special needs to experience the thrill of camping and nature, just like their able-bodied peers. For example, when you enter a Camp For All bathroom, all of the stalls are accessible!  Not just one, all of them.  And that culture is multiplied throughout the camp site. Camp For All is the only recreational facility in southeast Texas that accommodates the special needs community in this way.

Why was Camp For All opened?

Camp For All was founded by two Houston physicians and a parent who lost his young son to
cancer. They recognized the need for an accessible recreational and camping facility for
southeast Texas’ special needs population. A dedication was held in April 1998, and the camp
served more than 2,000 people its first summer. Today, Camp For All has served more than
88,000 children and adults since the gates first opened.

How is Camp For All funded?

Camp For All is supported by private philanthropic foundations, individuals, corporations, small businesses, events and user fees. Fundraising initiatives are underway to raise more than $1.9
million for 2011’s program costs. The Camp For All total budget is more than $3 million.

What does Camp For All provide?

Camp For All provides campers with special needs an opportunity to discover life!
The Camp For All 206 acre facility includes 18 cabins, 4 retreat cabins, many different interactive
activities including aquatics, arts and crafts, biking, challenge course, cooking, equestrian,
evening parties, fine arts, lakefront, nature studies and overnight camping, small animal farm,
target sports and team sports.

How does Camp For All collaborate with so many other non-profits?

Camp For All is the host site and provides the professional staff, the cutting edge facilities, appropriate food, and universal programming.  The other non-profits, Partners  bring the campers, in-cabin counselors and medical team, and any extra supplies they might need. We charge each non profit less than half of the actual cost per person to attend and we raise funds to cover the rest.

When is Camp For All open?

Camp For All is open year-round for week long summer camps and for weekday and weekend retreats
in the spring, fall and winter.
